About center

The Biotechnology Research Center was established in 1999 at Al-Nahrain University, with financial and administrative independence. The center has a board of directors headed by the president of the university, and the director of the center and the heads of scientific departments in the center are members of it, as well as a number of specialists with a distinguished academic reputation who are chosen from other universities and ministries.
The academic staffs in the center are a consultative and scientific tributary to many ministries and state institutions through various advisory and scientific committees. The center contains advanced scientific laboratories in addition to owning an animal house and a scientific botanical garden.
The center has a semi-annual refereed scientific journal concerned with publishing biotechnology research, as well as issuing a monthly scientific bulletin that highlights the latest developments in biotechnology sciences and various other topics.
Interests
• Keeping abreast of developments in biotechnologies in the world for their transfer, development and resettlement in Iraq Work to establish biosafety and biosecurity controls
• Providing training and development opportunities for the center’s staff
• Establishing scientific and research cooperation relations with similar research centers inside and outside Iraq
• The center organizes annually, since its establishment, many training courses in biotechnology specializations, as well as holding seminars and scientific workshops for the center’s employees, universities and other ministries to raise their scientific and technical level
Vision
To be a research center specialized in the field of biotechnology, working on addressing life problems, finding scientific solutions in the medical, environmental and agricultural aspects, facilitating the task of scientific development in the field of biotechnology and working to lay the principles of sustainable development
Mission
Towards a specialized scientific environment concerned with biotechnologies and the importance of their applications in serving the Iraqi society and achieving its goals
Objectives
• Providing scientific, advisory and training services to universities and research institutions to create a state of interaction and connection between universities and research centers on the one hand, and research institutions in different ministries and scientific research centers on the other
• Organizing training courses, seminars and scientific conferences in the disciplines of biotechnology and its applications for researchers, teachers and technicians inside and outside the university
• Providing advisory and scientific services to graduate students and various state institutions and production sectors to solve the problems facing the work of those sectors
• Adopting a culture of quality in developing the research and educational process to achieve a distinguished level in applied research to serve the community
• Activating the working partnership with the relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Environment, Industry and Minerals and the Ministry of Science and Technology…etc, in implementing joint applied projects that serve the community and solve dilemmas
• Participation in the scientific and advisory committees of some ministries and institutions to provide expertise and scientific advice and adopt the culture of research groups in the implementation of strategic research projects
• Holding national and international scientific conferences to gather the largest number of researchers and scientists to present their research and exchange experiences, according to a conference held every two years
• Encourage researchers in the center to publish their research in solid international journals with impact factors
