It is a matter of pride and pleasure to have the honor to write these lines about the Biotechnology Research Center at Al-Nahrain University, which was established in 1999 as a distinguished research edifice locally and regionally. It continue in supports the research process with distinguished scientific research that keeps pace with the great development taking place in the field of biotechnology and its various branches such as molecular genetics, In vitro fertilization, genetic engineering, plant and environmental biotechnologies, when institutions in this field were scarce in the Middle East. Despite the center was faltered somewhat in achieving its goals due to the circumstances that our dear country experienced during the past period. Nevertheless, everyone who took over the management of the center before us spared no effort In working on the continuation of the center in its research career, which resulted in the formation of the three scientific departments of the center (Department of Medical and Molecular Biotechnologies, Environmental Biotechnologies and Plant Biotechnologies). The center was awarded the title of First Excellence in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research twice during its previous career.
Nowadays, as I write these lines, which supply trust in Allah first and then the support of my colleagues in the distinguished scientific departments, which include a selection of qualified teachers and researchers, as well as administrators and sincere technicians, who are determined to complete the research process and make every effort to compete with research centers in the field of biotechnology at the regional and global levels by developing the center’s vision and making it based on strategic planning for research in all fields of biotechnology. Also, attempts to build up effective partnerships locally, regionally and internationally. This is in cooperation with research centers and relevant colleges such as medicine, pharmacy, science, veterinary medicine and agriculture. As well as working to develop basic training programs for students and researchers of Iraqi universities to prepare students for the distinguished development of their skills and ability to compete to achieve leadership and innovation in higher education, scientific research and community service at the local and regional levels, and to contribute positively to the progress of Iraq. What makes it easier for us to achieve this, praise be to Allah, is the possession of center to the scientific and technical capabilities that can contribute to improving the center’s performance to conduct research that rise to the advanced scientific solid standards that are the basis that qualifies us to be in the ranks of global centers, and since scientific research is the basis of the work of every teaching at the university. Every teacher is a researcher who accomplishes a master’s or doctorate scientific research, so if we want to advance this dear country in all fields, we must support real scientific research.
We ask Allah Almighty to help us make this scientific edifice a success and to pave the way for those who will succeed us in it so that we can perform even a small part of our duty towards our dear country, Iraq.
